Life can be ecstatic, exciting and extraordinary... if you make it to be.

SULONG, G1BO! SULONG, PILIPINAS!

Several months ago, I had no idea who G1BO Teodoro was. I knew he was the Defense Secretary and that he switched political parties to be an ally to she who must not be named. But I did not know G1BO, the man, the leader.

As elections drew nearer, and the presidentiables started to announce their candidacies, I started to do my homework. Ok, I admit it, I winced when G1BO chose Edu as his partner. I mean Edu is a great host, in fact, I miss Game Ka Na Ba. But I don't feel he's VP material. At least not yet. And it was pretty apparent why he chose him. But I got past that error of judgment as I would like to call it.

To sum it all up, here's how I made my choice:

1) I want a LEADER, not a reluctant one, but someone who knew what he wanted and who knows what he's doing. People say they are voting for Noynoy because he has the ability to unite the Filipinos. I beg to disagree. These Filipinos are behind him for the wrong reasons. They are romanticizing Cory's death. Don't get me wrong. I loved her. But she died because of cancer. Let's not forget that fact. It was Ninoy who shed his blood for us. More than two decades ago. We should never forget that, because those years were great lessons of history. Noynoy may have a cult following now, but once they realize he is nothing but an illusion, they will leave. Then what? How can Noynoy unite the Filipinos then? Through the charm of Kris? Or will he succumb to those who have forced him into that position for their own intentions? But G1BO has that fire in him, that competence to LEAD AND CHANGE A NATION. And I admired him more for taking up the challenge, even when he knew he was against a popular choice and one who has the machinery, a.k.a. wealth, to sway votes through propaganda. That is the kind of leader I want, and we all need. One that doesn't back down on roadblocks. Sulong, G1BO!

2) Competence is very important. Why is it when we hire new employees we want them to go through a very strict selection process? How many times have you been rejected for a post? We need to look at qualifications and track record. Humility is a good quality but that's not the only important thing to look for in a president. And who's to say G1BO is not humble? Did he ever publicize any of his charitable work? Do you see him pretending to be one with that masses by singing songs with street children? He may not be poor but he knows what to do to eradicate poverty. Nor is he arrogant. But more than that, he is focused and committed. His platform is most solid. Aggressive but not unrealistic.

3) He commands respect but not through fear. He is the kind of leader who other leaders will also respect. My mentors always include power dressing as one key to success. Competency will get you the job, but it's image and perception that will take you to the next level.

At the end of the day, I chose the MAN who will make the next 6 years worthwhile. And the MAN who will lead the Filipinos and incite them not just to follow but to COMMIT. Sulong, G1BO!

SO WHO'S COUNTING NOW?

I turned another year older a couple of weeks ago. The day went by without much ado. Had dinner and salubong with family. Another dinner and family time on the day itself. These are times I value most. The eating and laughing together. Sometimes, even just sitting quietly together, while sharing a scoop of yogurt ice cream. Incidentally, I think Yoh-gurt Froz is the best of its kind in town, plus I love that the kids can play in the Hobbes and Landes play area while the adults enjoy the breeze outside.

Birthdays usually make me introspective and pensive, but this year, I just kind of breezed through it. No thinking about bucket lists and what not. Today though, it's a different story. Somehow, my mind wandered to the list I made ten years ago, my before-30 list, and how, through the years, the list is still well, pretty much undone. Gah. I know.

1. Learn how to swim
2. Learn to drive stick-shift
3. Take up diving
4. Learn how to cook
5. Learn CPR

10 years is a long time to procrastinate, and that thought just gave me the motivation I needed to finally start crossing some items in this list. And I'm going to start with #1.

I already checked out a swim school online, and the venue is prolly 10 mins away from home. I passed by a couple of times already to register, but unfortunately, I missed them both times. I will go back on Monday, and by hook or by crook, I will learn some basic survival skills this summer :) The other bonus from this whole thing is that the location of the classes is this nice little subdivision that reminds me of American communities. No fences, pretty lawns and verandas. When I grow up, I want to buy a house there :)

So it came to pass that on my birthday, I was nonchalant about life and being another year older. But then, one day it just hit me that I gotta start doing things I want to do, because time just flies by in a snap. Ten years of keeping an undone list. Now, that just ain't right :)
