Woke up sweating and thought there was a power outage. Then I hear my aircon purring softly. "Pakshet, my aircon got busted", was my first thought. "Oh no, not now, demit, it's freakin' summer", was the second. "Why now, when I finally got to sleep earlier than usual, only to be disrupted by the intense summer heat?!", was the third. "Am I being punished? Is sleeplessness the punishment?", the fourth and fifth.
Haha. Ok, corny na. But really. I was miffed. Wtf. All I want is to get some sleep. Why oh, why. So I got up, turned off the aircon completely, and turned on the fan. There's that soft purring again. MERALCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Demit. Called the office, and it's confeermed. Pakshet agen. No aircon + No fan = huffin' and puffin' XY. Gawd, I certainly hope this - whatever this is - is not breaking my appliances. Specially not my aircon. Demit.
Haaaay! Please Lord, I promise to be more tolerant of the pasaway folks at the new blue. Just please let me sleep again.
Postscript: Hmmm.. Facebook is acting up. Nooooooooooooooooooooo. Haha. Talk about Murphy's law.
I love summers. Childhood summers were mostly spent at play with my siblings, cousins and village friends. Childhood summers were fun, scary (if spent in my parents' hometown where there used to be no TV and all that modern stuff), exciting, and every year, we were always doing something new. To piano lessons I never completed because my teacher spanked my hands so often. To swimming lessons gone awry when I contracted a viral infection because of the icky pool @ YMCA. To the "camping" sessions I had with my siblings in our mini Nipa hut situated in our backyard, where we would cook using those cute red clay pots and sleep together in one room, with just "banig" and kumot.
My teenage summers were mostly spent in school. I loved my high school so much. We were young, restless and free. We climbed hills (or mountains for teeners like us, haha), trekked rivers, played in the fields, did mostly nothing except have fun.
So much of my summers are associated with happy memories, I always light up when summers come. I don't like the sun all that much now. But I love the warm breeze, the smell of sea, and the calming feel of sand in my feet.
And that is why I truly enjoyed the quick but relaxing Laiya getaway. La Luz is a nice lovely place. But the 4km stretch fugly road definitely needs a makeover. I hope Governor Vi takes action on this soon. Hehehe.La luz is probably overrated but I loved the loft we stayed in. It was spacious and clean. Hanging out in one of the cabanas is probably one of my favorite activities - what could be better than drinking, playing mindless games like bluff and category games, and just talking about life and general things. Nothing heavy. Just all light stuff that makes summers happy.
The food was so-so. My most favorite meal was breakfast. I liked the way the eggs were cooked. And processed meat are just the best. Harhar.
All in all, it was a lovely, restful getaway in the company of great friends.
Now I'm looking forward to some stress-free me time where I can wake up to see a long stretch of white-sand beach just a few steps away from bed, and look forward to a day of doing nothing but lounge and sip pina coladas, read a book or two, get a massage, watch people, listen to music, and view lovely sunsets I wish I can bottle up.
Finally, the office barkada got away to relax for the weekend. To a place where locals apparently refer to as "almost heaven". And indeed it was.
Eagle Point Resort is one of the best resorts I've been to so far. It's far enough from the city. It's quaint and picturesque. Our room had a breath-taking view of the bay. How lovely it is to wake up every morning with that view. And then there's Sepoc Island. What a charming little island. And of course there's the sunset. With the best of company, everything was just right.
We ate, slept, took a dip in the water, went kayaking (while I slept, haha, in the guise of getting a tan), drank, took pictures, ate again, took pictures again, went dipping with baby sharks and fish, went to the pool...
Words are not enough to express all the loveliness and happiness. Pictures are worth a thousand words, after all, so here goes.

Tom. night will be the start of the summer solstice - longest day of the year, the beginning of summer, for the people in the northern hemisphere, that is.. For us living right on the earth's equator, well, it's sort of the end of ours (not really.. but, I'm not going into all the scientific details, because, I don't know. hahaha)...
Oh, summer, you went away too soon!! I don't want you to go yet.. Summer is the time for brief love affairs, with someone, with some place like Bora.. It's also the time for inhibitions to go away, and for people to play... It's the time to get out there and get burned.. Well, literally and figuratively... :p
And one of the most popular summer solstice festivals, is the Fete dela Musique, which started in France (don't you just love them? they gave us, among several other wonderful things, ern, French kissing, and French fries.. hahaha)... The Phils. started the fete about ten years ago, in Malate, then somewhere along the way, they moved to El Pueblo, and this year, in Eastwood.. It just gets bigger and bigger.. This year, they will have ~2x more bands playing all kinds of music! They're expecting 2x more people (10000++!!) flocking to the venue. Bad of course.. Where to park? Argh. How to breathe? Double argh.
But, I totally enjoyed my first Fete.. Music and alcohol are two of my favorite things ever.. hehehe.. Never mind all the inconvenience (like feet hurting like hell after about 5 hrs of standing up/dancing/walking, etc; people stepping on your poor toes; 2 hrs to find a parking space; getting sweaty and sticky, and all sorts of eewwwww)... It is FUN, FUN, FUN!
Here's a quick overview to what we'll see tonight :
World Music (main stage)- opening by Cynthia Alexender at ~9PM.. Various performances by Pinikpikan (including closing at 3AM)... Loquy at 1230AM.. Makiling Ensemble (after CynthiA), Brownbeat, Radioactive sago, Bayang Barrios... I'm hanging out here most of the time
Reggae (Via Mare) - Tropical depression (2AM)ROck (Parking lot) - The Dawn, Mongols (940PM), 6 Cycle Mind, Rivermaya, Bamboo (1130PM), Sugarfree, Cambio, Sandwich -- all happening after 9PM..
Alternative (Cybermall) - Narda, Session Road (150AM), Kitchie Nadal, Barbie's Cradle
Hiphob/RB will be at the Basement, Electronica at Big kahuna, Drum Jam by K-honistas at McCau Fountain area (830PM).. Well, there's also Jazz, lounge music and blues..
Footnote: IT RAINED! HARD! AND THE RAIN KILLED THE FESTIVAL :( More about this year's fete when I'm over the inis. Hehehe.
